SKUNKFUNK

“BASQUE ORIGINS, SUSTAINABLE FASHION, ARTY SOULS."

Skunkfunk is adding more sustainability on its journey. Klow wants to encourage every brand that are becoming more engaged. Not all their products are organic or from recycled materials but by selecting these ones only in our store will encourage the brands to follow this path.

Klow wants to promote sustainability and one of our main mission is to help our consumers to have a clearer vision of what products are the best for the environment, their health and for the people involved in the production process.
We have committed to only select the best sustainable products that suit our values. And we're very glad to include the sustainable products from Skunkfunk in our catalog.

“We believe that a more sustainable
fashion industry is not only possible but needed.”
- Skunkfunk

This Basque Country brand has been created in the 90’s. They are committed to making durable fashion both in style and quality. Rather than doing an eco-line / conscious line, they apply this principle across all their operations, from bers to wet processes, from packaging to transport. They believe in this change and are at the forefront of it. At this stage, Skunkfunk is not entirely using organic cotton but commit to use 100% organic cotton by 2020. At Klow we only select the ecological and sustainable products from their collections. Our journey is to help consumers to find their way through sustainability and make sure you can find the right products beside all "green" messages that pop-up everywhere.

"We will start by telling you that for us, sustainability is not a green line
of some organic stuff or some charity action done by a given brand or
company.

At Skunkfunk we do it because we are concerned about what we
do and its impact on the planet and society. Sometimes it can be frustrating
to realize how much needs to be done to change many of the things we deal
with as a fashion company.
But this constant challenge should be turned
into motivation and so we have done."
- Skunkfunk

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Since Skunkfunk embarked on this mission of introducing environmentally
preferred raw materials into their collections from Spring Summer 2004,
they have come from below 10% to above 90% within the entire clothing collection.

This season they are excited to announce the introduction of  recycled cotton
made from preproduction fabric cut-offs, a more sustainable alternative
to organic cotton that consumes less water and energy
and avoids re-dying or using new farmland. This year they have also introduced the Zero Waste capsule collection. As an improvement, Skunkfunk tried to create a capsule collection with no waste*. For that, they had to use their knowledges and skills to create some of their garments that would fit the customers without any try session.
*Klow team make sure to legend each products with their feature, you can find more details about each garments on the product descriptions pages.

Organic Cotton

One of the most important fibers
within Skunkfunk collections is GOTS
Certified Organic Cotton. Cotton without toxic pesticides,
herbicides, synthetic fertilizers
or genetically modified seeds.
Nowadays 98% of cotton
produced worldwide is done using harmful chemicals, in
detriment of the land and the farmers that work with it.
Skunkfunk decided that they couldn’t
continue to support this system
and they wanted to make a change.
This change was to move
towards organic cotton. Completely.

Linen

Cultivated with less pesticides.
Durable, soft and fast growing.

Lyocel

Coming from eucalyptus cellulose.
Lightweight andtender to the skin.
TENCEL® branded lyocell fibers are botanic origin, since they are extracted from the raw material wood. Fiber production itself is extremely ecofriendly, due to the closed loop system. Lyocel fibers are more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen.

Recycled Polyester

Plastic bottles melted, spun
and woven into fabric. Waste
has never looked so good.

Recycled Leather

A second life for leather scraps,
less garbage in the landfills.

CERTIFICATION

"HOW CAN CONSUMERS KNOW THE TRUE FACTS
ABOUT WHAT WE SAY? THIS IS THE ONLY WAY."

Skunkfunk is a signatory of the 2020 Circular Fashion System
Commitments (Global Fashion Agenda).

Skunkfunk Manifesto

"It’s about taking the time to think about and understand the true
impact that our purchasing power has. It’s not a secret that the
global clothing production has doubled over the past 20 years, to an
astonishing 85.000 million garments in 2016. Textile waste occupies
nearly 5% of landfill space, and all of us, tend now to keep that beloved
pair of trousers for half as long as we did 15 years ago. In fact, many
cheap garments we buy today do not last due to the intentional poor
quality and craftsmanship.
Buy cheap, discard fast and create a huge pile of non-degradable
garbage along the way is an unsustainable model, isn’t it?

At Skunkfunk we firmly believe that every
one of you can make a difference. We’d like
to encourage you to ask yourself this three
questions before buying:

Environment:
Is the brand committed towards their
employees, their suppliers and their
impact on the environment? How so?

Fibers:
Do they mainly use – or are moving
towards - including in their collections
low impact and sustainable fibers such
as organic cotton, ramie, lyocell, linen or
recycled polyester?

Certifications:
Do they have third party certifications?
What do these certifications mean?"

Our money is more powerful than our vote. The purchasing power is in our hands and change begins at home. Be part of the change you want to see!"
